New Mechanical Garage for South Shore to Yarmouth Area

Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal (Oct. 2007 - Feb. 2021)

Snow plows, salt trucks, graders and other road-maintenance equipment used from the South Shore to Yarmouth are getting a new home.

A new garage will be built in Hebbville, near Bridgewater, to service the road equipment that maintains more than 4,500 kilometres of road in five counties.

“This facility is the heart of highway operations maintenance and repairs and services the equipment that keeps our roads safe all-year round,” said Mark Furey, Minister of Business, on behalf of Geoff MacLellan, Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal. “The current garage is aging, too small and no longer meets today’s standards for equipment repairs and road maintenance.”

The Hebbville garage services a 210-unit fleet that includes snow plows, salt trucks, graders, as well as other road-maintenance equipment.

Plans for the new garage include six drive-through working bays, a dedicated welding bay, a wash bay, an oil-water separator system, an overhead crane and other machinery-lifting devices. The province is investing $4.45 million to build the facility.

Design work will begin this summer and the garage is expected to be completed in the fall of 2018.
