Halifax Homicide Case Added to Rewards Program

The Halifax Regional Police and the provincial government are adding the homicide of John Fulton Newcombe to the Rewards for Major Unsolved Crimes Program.

"The loss of life is extremely difficult," said Justice Minister Diana Whalen. “Families deserve answers. Not knowing only adds to their pain. I urge anyone with information about this crime to tell police what they know."

In the early morning hours of June 1, 2012, Mr. Newcombe was shot outside of Winston’s Pub at 278 Lacewood Dr., Halifax. The 27-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.

"We can’t imagine what John’s loved ones have been going through for the past five years," said Superintendent Jim Perrin officer-in-charge of the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division. "Investigators have continued to actively investigate John’s murder but one of the main obstacles they face is a lack of co-operation from people who know what happened. We hope that adding John’s case to the rewards program will motivate someone to break the code of silence and come forward with what they know about his murder."

Those who come forward with information must provide their name and contact information. They may be called to testify in court. All calls will be recorded.

The Rewards for Major Unsolved Crimes Program was launched in October 2006 as an additional tool to help police gather information on unsolved crimes. The program provides up to $150,000 to anyone who shares information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or people responsible for these homicides.
