Nova Scotians Warned About Unlicensed Activity

Service Nova Scotia is making Nova Scotians aware of unlicensed activity involving home alarm systems sold door-to-door.

iCONIC Alarms has been operating without a licence since February 2017, selling home alarm services door-to-door on behalf of ADT Security Services.

Service Nova Scotia has not approved a permit for iCONIC Alarms, as the company failed to comply with the Direct Sellers’ Act and regulations.

Nova Scotians who have entered into an ADT Security Services contract sold by a door-to-door seller representing iCONIC Alarms between February and October 2017 are protected under the Direct Sellers’ Regulation Act. The contract can be cancelled at any time, for any reason. Nova Scotians cannot be charged cancellation fees or any additional amounts for home alarm equipment that was installed.

Affected Nova Scotians who would like to cancel their contract with ADT Security Services are advised to contact the company directly.

Direct sellers are businesses that operate without a retail space, such as door-to-door sales, home parties and telephone solicitations.

Service Nova Scotia urges Nova Scotians purchasing goods or services through a direct seller to work only with licensed sellers and to always check the seller’s licence before paying any money or entering into a contract.
