Builders/Renovators "Taking the Cure" - Provincial

Natural Resources (to July 2018)

Builders and renovation contractors will be "Taking the Cure" in Stellarton, Dartmouth and Wolfville from February 12-14.

Joe Lstiburek, recognized as one of North America's leading authorities on housing problems and solutions, will present one-day seminars in the three locations on how to build trouble free, comfortable, durable, and energy efficient homes.

Leading building supply dealers in Nova Scotia have joined with the Atlantic Home Warranty Program and the Department of Natural Resources to bring the seminars to Stellarton, Dartmouth and Wolfville with the support of the Nova Scotia Home Builders Association.

The Cure for the Common Callback seminar was developed to help builders and renovators understand why problems occur and to provide simple, cost-effective approaches that prevent these problems from reoccurring in future projects.

Seminar topics include exterior moisture failures in walls and roofs, premature deterioration of wood siding, paint failures, how to build a dry basement, nail pops and other drywall problems, truss uplift, insulated sheathing and how to brace it, why airtightness is essential, preventing ice dams, and avoiding mould and mildew.

Builders, renovation contractors, building suppliers, housing officials, and anyone with an interest in house construction and renovation should not miss this chance to spend a day with Mr. Lstiburek as he explores the causes of, and the cure for, real world problems.

Advance registration is $80 until Feb. 10. Contact the Department of Natural Resources toll free at 1-800-670-4636. Registration after Feb. 10 is $100 and begins at 8 a.m. the day of the seminars. Builder discounts are available.
