Queen's Counsel Appointments

Justice

Justice Minister Alan Mitchell today announced the appointment of 12 lawyers as Queen's counsel. The appointees are:

J. Ronald Creighton, Truro Thomas P. Donovan, Halifax A. Lawrence Graham, Dartmouth Robert G. Grant, Halifax Peter W. Gurnham, Halifax Kenneth C. Haley, Sydney Marjorie Hickey, Halifax Brian G. Johnston, Halifax George R. Lohnes, Kentville Brian MacLellan, Halifax Timothy C. Matthews, Halifax Paul L. Walter, Kentville

"These individuals have earned the respect of their colleagues," said Mr. Mitchell. "Today we acknowledge their professionalism, integrity and valued contribution to the legal community in this province."

Eligibility criteria for Queen's counsel appointments include:
professional integrity; outstanding contributions to the practice of law; an exceptional contribution through teaching or continuing legal education; demonstration of exceptional qualities of leadership in the profession; or engaging in activities of a public or charitable nature in such a way as to raise the esteem in which the legal profession is held by the public.

Recommendations were made to cabinet by a Queen's Counsel Advisory Committee, chaired by Justice Doane Hallett. Other members of the committee are: Roberta Clarke, QC; Blaine Allaby, QC; Dr. Daureen Lewis; Robert MacKeigan, QC; Malcolm MacLeod, QC; Arthur Mollon, QC; Joel Pink, QC; and John Young, QC. Committee members were appointed by the minister of justice and the Nova Scotia Barristers' Society.
