Valley Artists' Works Selected for Art Bank

Three Valley artists will have their work purchased by the Department of Education and Culture as part of the 1997-98 Nova Scotia Art Bank Purchase Program.

Nyna Cropas of Clementsport, Bob Hainstock of Kentville, and John Neville of Centreville were selected from more than 160 applications.

Applications were received from across Nova Scotia and reviewed by a three-member jury.

"The jury was impressed by the number and quality of applications submitted to this year's competition," said jury member Bruce Campbell. "The professional calibre of the art and crafts produced throughout our province are indicators of a vital and growing community. It is something that we, as Nova Scotians, can be extremely proud of."

The Nova Scotia Art Bank was created in 1975 to provide recognition to Nova Scotian artists and to stimulate public awareness of the visual arts through the purchase of artworks that reflect the best of current visual expression. The annual purchase budget is $30,000.

Besides Mr. Campbell, members of the jury included Susan Wakefield of Halifax and Kenny Boone from Dominion. Together, they recommended the purchase of 40 artworks, including paintings, photographs, multi-and mixed media, video, earthenware and an etching.
