Minister Launches Child Care Awareness Days

Community Services

Quality child care, one of society's most important investments, will be celebrated across Nova Scotia during Child Care Awareness Days, Aug. 23 to Sept. 10.

Community Services Minister Francene Cosman, on behalf of Premier Russell MacLellan, will officially launch the event on Monday, Aug. 24, 10:30 a.m. at Province House when she signs a proclamation and raises the "Quality Child Care -- A Good Place to Grow" flag. Children, parents and caregivers will join the event and take in a puppet show.

"Quality child care provides children with a solid foundation, parents with peace of mind, and communities with opportunities for future success," said Mrs. Cosman. "I encourage Nova Scotians to support quality child care now and throughout the year."

Child Care Awareness Days is held annually to recognize the positive impact of quality child care. Giving all children a good start in life is known to be a wise investment for both families and their communities.

The Province House event is one of many activities planned across the province. Parades, fairs, mall displays, fun days, open houses, barbecues and mini sports events will be open to young and old alike.

Child Care Awareness Days is sponsored by Child Care Connection-NS, the Nova Scotia Roundtable on Child Care, and the Nova Scotia Department of Community Services. A number of corporate and community sponsors have also made donations in support of the various events.

NOTE TO EDITORS: The proclamation signing will take place at 10:30 a.m. in the Premier's Office at Province House. The flag-raising will follow on the south lawn.
