Ban on Open Fires Lifted

Natural Resources (to July 2018)

A ban prohibiting open fires in Nova Scotia woodlands was lifted effective 12 noon today, Monday, Aug. 31.

"Recent weather conditions have reduced the forest fire hazard to low across the province, therefore the ban is no longer required," said Natural Resources Minister Kennie MacAskill.

"Department of Natural Resources staff and volunteer fire departments deserve credit for their excellent firefighting efforts throughout the dry summer."

There have been no reported fires since the woods travel ban was lifted on Aug. 24.

Although the ban on open fires is lifted, people are reminded that burning permits are still required for fires other than cooking fires.

"Even though the risk of forest fires is low, I urge everyone to continue to use care and caution while travelling in the woods," said Mr. MacAskill.
