Deputy Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs

Premier's Office

Premier Russell MacLellan today announced the appointment of Bob MacKay as deputy minister of intergovernmental affairs.

"Bob MacKay's experience in both the provincial and federal arenas, and the private sector, is invaluable to this government," said Premier MacLellan, who is also Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs. "I look forward to working closely with him and tapping into his very considerable expertise."

A Glace Bay native, Mr. MacKay's career has included education, business and government. He was a school teacher and administrator and worked at the federal Ministry of State for Economic and Regional Development, before joining Petro-Canada, where he had operational responsibility for the company's activities in the Maritimes. He left after 11 years to become a business management consultant specializing in the energy sector.

Mr. MacKay assumes the intergovernmental affairs post in addition to his duties as deputy minister of the Nova Scotia Technology and Science Secretariat. Prior to that posting, Mr. MacKay was deputy minister responsible for the Premier's Office and deputy minister of the Priorities and Planning Secretariat.

His appointment to intergovernmental affairs is effective immediately.
