Conservation Officer Cadets to be Sworn In

Natural Resources (to July 2018)

Fifteen candidates from the conservation officer cadet program at the police academy in Summerside will be sworn in next week to work in the enforcement section of the Nova Scotia Department of Natural Resources for six weeks.

"Our department is proud to host these cadets as part of their training to become full-fledged conservation officers," said Natural Resources Minister Kennie MacAskill. "In addition to providing the cadets with firsthand training in enforcement work, it will provide valuable assistance to Natural Resources enforcement staff during the hunting season."

Six cadets will be sworn in Monday, Oct. 26, at the department's office in Shubenacadie, and nine will be sworn in Tuesday, Oct., 27, at the St. Peter's office in Cape Breton. The 15 will be posted to Department of Natural Resources offices across the province.

Their six weeks with the department is the on-the-job training component of a 16-week conservation officer program at the police academy. Preference for admittance to the program is given to graduates of recognized fish, wildlife or forestry schools such as the Maritime Forest Ranger School in New Brunswick.

NOTE TO EDITORS: Media are encouraged to attend the swearing-in ceremonies. Monday's will be held at 10 a.m. at Shubenacadie; Tuesday's will be at 1 p.m. at St. Peter's.
