Justice

Justice Minister Robbie Harrison today announced that James C. Beaver has been named executive director of the department's Police and Public Safety Services division. Mr. Beaver is a former member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, and he most recently served as a consultant with the Police and Public Safety Services division.

Mr. Beaver received his bachelor of arts from Carleton University, and he holds a diploma in adult education, developed by Algonquin College, through the Canadian Police College. During his 30 years with the RCMP, the Sydney native held a number of progressively responsible positions. He was an internal auditor and evaluator, a consultant on special projects and major studies and an organized crime section leader. He was seconded to the United Nations as a member of the technical advance team to Haiti and subsequently served as the executive assistant to the United Nations Commissioner of Police in Haiti.

"We are delighted that Jim will be taking on this challenging role," said Mr. Harrison. "His understanding and knowledge of law enforcement from a variety of perspectives will serve the department, and the citizens of Nova Scotia, well."
