Contract for Renovations to Digby Regional High School

Education (July 1999 - March 2013)

A contract for phase two of the Digby Regional High School renovations has been awarded to Halifax construction company Maxim 2000, allowing the project to be completed in 2000-2001.

Maxim 2000 is expected to start work immediately on the $10.7 million project which includes a major addition and interior renovations to the school. Another company recently completed the first phase, a $1.2 million project to build foundations and develop playfields.

"This project has been eagerly awaited by the community, both for its educational and cultural possibilities. The school is a great example of the province working with the community and school board to provide much needed facilities," said Education Minister Jane Purves.

The renovation project was approved in 1992, then expanded to include a major addition in 1997. Extensive community consultation resulted in a renovation plan which centres on the existing gymnasium. New classrooms and learning support spaces, a cafeteria, music room and theatre complex will be added. The Southwest Regional School Board, local governments, the Digby business community and area volunteers rallied to raise funds and make the theatre a reality.

Work is expected to begin immediately with completion expected in the 2000-2001 school year.
