Moose License Draw Deadline Nears

The deadline to apply for a moose hunting license is quickly approaching, Natural Resources Minister Ernest Fage reminded hunters today.

Applications must be postmarked by Thursday, May 25 or dropped off at a Department of Natural Resources office no later than 4:30 p.m. on May 25. The application form is available on the department's website at: www.gov.ns.ca/natr/wildlife/index.htm .

The draw for 200 licenses will be held at the Strathlorne Forest Nursery in Inverness County on Wednesday, June 28, at 12:30 p.m. The hunt will take place in Inverness and Victoria counties in Cape Breton from Oct. 9 to 21.

Applicants must be a resident of Nova Scotia and hold a Nova Scotia firearms or bowhunter hunting certificate. Anyone who has had a moose license since 1994 is not eligible.

A fee of $5.75, tax included, must be submitted with each application. The moose license fee is $57.50, tax included.

Last fall 200 licensed hunters, drawn from 14,500 applicants, took 184 moose.
