Nova Scotia WorkinfoNET

Education (July 1999 - March 2013)

Nova Scotia has launched a comprehensive website aimed at providing the province's labour force with timely and accurate information about work.

Nova Scotia WorkinfoNET (NS WIN), provides an ordered, reliable source of work information for Nova Scotians and directs them to local learning resources. The site is located at www.ns.workinfonet.ca on the World Wide Web.

"Nova Scotians now have a career and employment website that is designed for them," said Education Minister Jane Purves. "Through NS WIN, Nova Scotians can find out quickly where the jobs are and the best way to get them."

The website contributes to a number of government commitments, including creating a jobs opportunity bureau for Nova Scotians, tracking employment opportunities and providing this information to guidance counsellors, and ensuring youth have access to information on career resources.

NS WIN will access the national database of work information and direct Nova Scotians to the many resources available to them locally. Specifically, the site will connect Nova Scotians to employment opportunities, education and training institutions, student aid, career counselling, occupational and career information, local labour-market information, entrepreneurship programs, and youth initiatives.

"We are proud to be a partner in the development of this labour- market information resource for Nova Scotians," said Howard Green, regional director general, Human Resources Development Canada for Nova Scotia. "The use of this tool will provide people in our province with a better link to employment and to information about the labour market."

In addition to its role as a clearing-house of information, the NS WIN website is also an effective tool for human resource practitioners, teachers, researchers, and community agency staff, who need up-to-date information on programs and trends affecting the workforce.

NS WIN has been created through the national partnership of CanWorkInfoNet (CanWIN). CanWIN provides a current and comprehensive database of information relating to the national labour force. The directory has been developed through a unique pan-Canadian partnership of federal, provincial and local governments and agencies.

The Department of Education and the Central Nova Industry Education Council initiated the NS WIN site in partnership with Human Resources Development Canada.
