Inquiry to Proceed

Chief Medical Examiner

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has been advised by Chief Judge Jean-Louis Batiot that an inquiry into the death of Adam Baird Comeau will proceed. Mr. Comeau, 36, died on Jan. 5, 2000.

As the death occurred while the individual was in custody, the medical examiner must investigate the cause of death pursuant to the Fatality Inquiries Act. The chief medical examiner also has the authority to recommend an inquiry into the death be held. Dr. Vernon Bowes made that recommendation with respect to Mr. Comeau.

Associate Chief Judge Brian Gibson will be conducting the inquiry.
