Death Occurs at Halifax Correctional Centre

A sudden death occurred at the Halifax Correctional Centre in the early hours of Aug. 7, the result of an apparent suicide.

Rounds were conducted by a correctional officer at about 5:38 a.m. At 6:03 a.m, staff found the individual in his cell.
Staff immediately applied CPR. The Emergency Response Team was called, and arrived on the scene at 6:10 a.m. Attempts at revival were not successful.

The RCMP were called in and are conducting an investigation, though they have confirmed that foul play is not suspected. The chief medical examiner's office has been informed, and family members have been contacted.

The Department of Justice extends deepest sympathies to the family.
