LABOUR Minister's Message for Labour Day, Sept. 4, 2000

"Nova Scotia's growing ability to remain competitive in world markets can be directly attributed to our most valuable resource, our workers. We are blessed with a dedicated, well-trained, innovative and hardworking workforce.

"There are so many dimensions to Nova Scotia's ability to compete in international markets and they tend to draw more attention than people. Technology and research are big attention-getters. Trade and fiscal policy also rate high on the scale of trading partners looking to do business in this province.

"Although these are interesting and important issues, and they certainly relate to our ability to compete, I firmly believe that people matter the most. It is our workers, be they world-class scientists or skilled tradesmen, who deliver the final product.

"Today is your day, Labour Day. It is a day set aside to salute the contributions of our workers to this great province. I encourage each of you to celebrate it and to bask in the pride of your accomplishments.

"On behalf of the province of Nova Scotia I thank you for those contributions and wish you a healthy, safe and productive year."

Angus MacIsaac, Minister
