Changes to Moose Draw Application Process

Natural Resources (to July 2018)

Applying for a moose licence in Nova Scotia is going the same way as the popular antlerless deer draw system. This change in the application process was announced today by Natural Resources Minister Ernest Fage.

Beginning April 1 potential moose hunters can call the same 1-900 application line that is used for antlerless deer draw applications. When a person calls this line, a non-refundable application fee of $6.90 will be charged to the telephone bill of the phone that is being used.

“We are streamlining the methods used to apply for both a moose and an antlerless deer draw licence, making the process more convenient for those that apply,” said Mr. Fage. “The antlerless deer draw system works very well and is looked upon favourably by hunting groups. This is also one more step at helping to cut some red tape in government operations.”

It is important to note that the application fee is charged to telephone bills each time the 1-900 number is called. This line is not a toll-free line or an inquiry line. Before dialing this number, all inquiries should be directed to any Department of Natural Resources office. In addition, all applicants should have their Firearm Hunting Certificate or Bowhunting Certificate numbers on hand when they call.

Information on how to apply and application criteria is available at department offices and through the Internet at www.moosedraw.hmcgroup.ca . Although more inconvenient and inefficient, individuals can still apply manually and should consult the department for details.

Applications will be accepted from April 1 to May 31. Potential moose hunters can call 1-900-565-3337 to apply, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. A public draw revealing the successful applicants will take place on June 22 at 12:30 p.m. at Strathlorne Nursery in Inverness County.

More than 13,000 people applied for the moose draw last year with 200 licences being issued.
