Death Occurs at Antigonish Correctional Centre

RCMP and the Department of Justice are investigating the sudden death of an inmate in the Antigonish Correctional Centre.

Staff found the body of a 43-year-old inmate in his cell just before 7 p.m. Thursday. They applied cardiopulmonary resuscitation until paramedics arrived. The individual was taken by ambulance to St. Martha's Hospital, where he was put on a life support system. He was pronounced dead around 7 a.m.

Family members and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner have been contacted. The Department of Justice extends deepest sympathies to the family.
