Bass River Agency Store Opens

Nova Scotia Liquor Corporation

The Nova Scotia Liquor Corporation announced today that the agency liquor store located in Bass River, Colchester Co., will open on Friday, Oct. 19.

The Dominion Chair General Store is the latest establishment to sell beverage alcohol with their regular merchandise. Rodney MacDonald, minister responsible for the administration of the Liquor Control Act, will be participating in a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 3:30 p.m.

"This opening will benefit the Bass River community," said Mr. MacDonald, "while at the same time providing government with valuable information on the concept of private operators selling beverage alcohol in Nova Scotia."

Bruce Rogers, acting president of the liquor corporation, agrees.

"We are pleased to see this store open in the Bass River area and provide the added convenience to customers," he said.

The Agency Store Program was announced last fall by Mr. MacDonald. It allows private stores to sell liquor in rural communities too small to support full-scale NSLC liquor stores.

Agency liquor stores have already opened in Advocate, Freeport, Salmon River, Iona and Whycocomagh. Other establishments are scheduled to open in New Ross and the Wentworth Valley later this month.
