Xerox Jobs in Nova Scotia Aided by Province

Economic Development (Aug. 1999 - Jan. 2009)

Xerox Corporation is creating up to 200 new jobs at its tele- operations centre in Dartmouth, with help from the provincial government. The new hires will join a similar telephone and web- based sales operation that has been in the formative stages at the centre since earlier this year.

The centre is due to open officially on Sept. 25.

"Once again, Nova Scotia's educated workforce, excellent infrastructure and positive business climate have led Xerox to locate here," said Burt Kleinman, vice president, Customer and Field Support, Xerox. "The assistance from the Nova Scotia government has been instrumental in our expansion into the Halifax area."

The province will provide a $315,000 loan to recruit, train and equip the new employees. Nova Scotia Business Inc. will provide a payroll rebate of a maximum $1.6 million, payable over five years, on the condition that the jobs are maintained for the designated period.

"We're delighted that Xerox Corporation has chosen to open new operations in Nova Scotia," said Cecil Clarke, Economic Development Minister. "Xerox and other major businesses are showing their faith in the talent of our people and the richness of our community in choosing to expand operations here."

A year ago, Xerox announced the establishment of a teleweb centre in Dartmouth. As many as 600 people are expected to be employed in that organization over the next five years. Operations at the centre began in January and have been progressing toward an official opening later this month.

Xerox Corporation is a US $17-billion Fortune 500 company and a leader in the global document market. It employs more than 72,000 people around the world. With about 900 employees working in Saint John, N.B., at a similar teleweb centre, the Atlantic Canada region boasts the second highest employment level for Xerox in Canada.
