Fire Ban Lifted

Natural Resources (to July 2018)

The Department of Natural Resources has lifted the ban on open fires in Nova Scotia woodlands effective at noon today, Sept 12.

"As a result of the significant rainfall received across the province last night, the fire hazard has dropped to a level where it is appropriate to lift the ban on open fires," said Natural Resources Minister Tim Olive.

The rainfall last night is the primary reason for the department's decision. As well, the shorter, cooler days and cool, damp nights have contributed to a lower fire hazard. The BUI (Build Up Index), which measures moisture in the woods and soils, has dropped to low across the province.
