Outdoor Leadership Emergency Procedures Course

Office of Health Promotion (Jan. 2003 - May 2005)

An emergency procedures course will be held April 11-13 at Camp Hillies, Annapolis County. The course is offered under the Nova Scotia Outdoor Leadership Development Program (NSOLD).

The course introduces leaders to skills that help them organize and lead safe outdoor activities. Particular attention is paid to preventing emergencies and how to deal with emergencies if they do occur. Throughout the event, participants will be placed in simulated situations to gain first-hand experience.

The emergency procedures course costs $65 for adults and $55 for students.

The NSOLD program is designed for volunteers and professionals, 17 years of age and over, who want to become outdoor leaders or who wish to upgrade their current outdoor skills. Groups from universities, private industry, government departments and volunteer organizations use NSOLD program training, which is operated by the former Sport and Recreation Commission, which is part of the Office of Health Promotion. Individuals who want to participate for their own personal development are also welcome.

The program provides participants with the knowledge and training to become better informed, increasingly skilled and more experienced outdoor leaders. This results in safer, more enjoyable, and environmentally sensitive experiences in our back country.

NSOLD was developed on three founding principles: experiential education, safety, and environmental sensitivity. Course schedules are available by clicking on the NSOLD logo at www.gov.ns.ca/src .
