Threat Low, But Nova Scotia Prepared

Justice

Justice Minister Jamie Muir today informed Nova Scotians that the RCMP advise that the threat assessment for the province continues to be low. A protocol for sharing information relating to any security concerns or threat assessments has been established at the federal, provincial and municipal levels.

"While there are no identifiable threats relating to Nova Scotians, we do have a process in place that ensures critical information gets to the right people at the right time," said Mr. Muir.

He also noted that the RCMP, the Emergency Measures Organization and other first responders are at a state of readiness and able to respond to specific threats should the need arise. The Department of Justice has also contacted all municipal police agencies to ensure they are aware of the protocol for information sharing and to advise them of the current level of threat assessment.

"The safety and security of Nova Scotia residents is something we are continually concerned about," said Mr. Muir. "That's why our agencies are at a state of readiness. I am sure Nova Scotians join with me in praying for an end to this conflict as soon as possible, and the safe return of the troops now deployed in the Persian Gulf."
