Fire Ban Lifted

Natural Resources (to July 2018)

The Department of Natural Resources has lifted the ban on open fires in western Nova Scotia. The ban was lifted effective noon today, July 21.

"There has been sufficient rain over most of the western region of the province to drop the hazard to a level where it is appropriate to lift the ban on open fires," said Natural Resources Minister Tim Olive.

The recent wet weather has resulted in a drop in hazard levels for the fire weather index and the build up index. The build-up index, which measures the moisture in the woods and soils, has dropped to low to moderate over 80 per cent of the region. The fire weather index, a general index of woodland fire danger, is low in about 95 per cent of the region.
