Annual Sandcastle Contest Scheduled for Sunday

The annual sandcastle contest at Clam Harbour Beach Provincial Park will be held on Sunday, Aug. 10, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Alcohol is not permitted in the provincial park or on the beach. Department of Natural Resources staff and Halifax Detachment Royal Canadian Mounted Police will be strictly enforcing the Liquor Control Act, the Provincial Parks Act and Beaches Act throughout the day. Illegal possession of liquor and open liquor in a vehicle carry fines of $445.

The sandcastle competition is a fun, family event that attracts thousands of people to Clam Harbour beach each year.

The Department of Natural Resources and RCMP also urge all beach- goers to park only in designated parking areas. Vehicles parked illegally will be ticketed and may be towed. The fine is $15. Organizers of the event are providing two shuttle buses, which will operate throughout the day transporting beach-goers to the park from their vehicles.
