HEALTH PROMOTION -Funding for Fitness Instruction Workshops

Inverness County residents will soon have increased access to certified fitness instruction, thanks to funding from the Nova Scotia Office of Health Promotion's Community Development Grant Program.

The recreation and tourism department of the Municipality of the County of Inverness will receive funding up to a maximum of $3,113 for fitness instructor certification workshops. These workshops will improve the knowledge and leadership skills of present and potential fitness instructors, resulting in safer and more effective programs.

"This project will benefit the people of Inverness County and attract more community members to our recreation and fitness facilities," said Health Promotion Minister Rodney MacDonald. "This region is taking a big step toward our goal of a healthier province".

John Cotton, director of recreation and tourism for the Municipality of the County of Inverness, said that the funding will help to expand the area's sport and recreation opportunities. "This program will provide another way to participate in quality physical activity programs right in our own communities."

The Community Development Grant Program is administered through the Office of Health Promotion's Sport and Recreation Division. The programs's purpose is to assist organizations in initiating sport and recreation and fitness projects.
