HEALTH PROMOTION -Supporting Active Living in HRM

The Nova Scotia government is lending a hand to trail development in the Halifax Regional Municipality.

Natural Resources Minister Richard Hurlburt, on behalf of Health Promotion Minister Rodney MacDonald, delivered a $16,500 contribution to the Second Lake Regional Park Association today, May 11. The investment will help the association construct a trail for passive use in the 700-acre Crown land reserve, located in the Sackville area.

"The Second Lake lands are a natural jewel for the people of Sackville, Windsor Junction, Fall River and surrounding communities to enjoy," said Mr. Hurlburt. "The construction of new trails will provide an opportunity for residents and visitors alike to get more active in this pristine setting."

The minister outlined the Nova Scotia government's contribution during the annual general meeting of the Second Lake Regional Park Association. David Haley, chair of the association, welcomed the provincial announcement.

"This is good news for the many people in our community who care about Second Lake," said Mr. Haley. "We appreciate the provincial government supporting our local efforts to promote the responsible use of Second Lake lands for future generations."

In addition to this year's financial support from the Office of Health Promotion, the Department of Natural Resources is working with the Second Lake Regional Park Association to design a provincial park plan for the area.
