Moose License Draw Scheduled

Natural Resources (to July 2018)

The Department of Natural Resources' annual moose license public draw is scheduled for Friday, June 25 at 11:30 a.m.

Richard Hurlburt, Minister of Natural Resources, will participate in the license draw at the Strathlorne Forest Nursery in Inverness County.

This year's moose hunt seasons will be held from Sept. 27 to Oct. 2 and from Oct. 4 to Oct. 9. There is also a three-day winter season from Dec. 14 to Dec. 16.

The Department of Natural Resources went to a zone management system in 2003 with the introduction of four zones in Victoria and Inverness counties, the only counties in the province where moose hunting is permitted. A three-day limited hunt in December was added north of the Cape Breton Highlands National Park to help with the management of the moose population, which is creating nuisance and safety issues for local communities and traffic.

A total of 11,354 applications were received. Three hundred and thirty-five licenses will be available, 25 of which are allocated to the December hunt.
