Norman Spence will always be remembered as a dedicated family man and community leader, Premier John Hamm said today, Aug. 17.

Longtime entrepreneur, farm leader, community volunteer and former MLA, Norman Tremaine Spence, passed away Sunday, Aug. 15, at the age of 93.

"Norman Spence accomplished a great deal during his lifetime and will long be remembered for all that he did for his community," Premier Hamm said. "His long service in the Nova Scotia Legislature as MLA for Hants West benefited many."

Mr. Spence was MLA for Hants West from 1963 to 1970. Flags at Province House were lowered to half-staff today in his memory.

"On behalf of the government of Nova Scotia, I would like to express deepest sympathies to the family of Norman Spence, as well as to his many friends and former colleagues," Premier Hamm said. "Our province has lost a fine Nova Scotian."
