N.S. GAMING CORP.--Minister Declares Responsible Gaming Awareness Week

People across Nova Scotia will have an opportunity to get the facts about gaming and to learn more about the resources available to support responsible gaming choices through an awareness week next month.

Peter Christie, Minister responsible for Part I of the Gaming Control Act, announced today, Sept. 24, that October 10-16 has been designated Responsible Gaming Awareness Week 2004 for Nova Scotia.

The week, which will be the third annual for Nova Scotia and only one of two events of its kind in Canada, is designed to highlight the information, tools and services that support healthy gaming choices among Nova Scotians.

The theme selected for this year's campaign is "Everyone needs a game plan," which strives to emphasize the need for education, informed decisions and planning in all responsible choices related to gaming.

"The province is committed to a well-managed, socially responsible gaming industry," said Mr. Christie. "A responsible industry is one that promotes and supports responsible decisions. Helping Nova Scotians have the resources they need to make informed decisions about gaming is what Responsible Gaming Awareness Week is all about."

A number of special activities and events will take place across the province during the week. These include mall displays, information mail-outs, leadership and education sessions for industry staff and stakeholders, as well as the launch of two awareness programs.

Responsible Gaming Awareness Week is led by the Nova Scotia Gaming Corporation, in conjunction with the Atlantic Lottery Corporation and Casino Nova Scotia.
