Family Court in Pictou County to Relocate

Justice

All courts hearing family law matters in Pictou County will soon be located under one roof. On Monday, Nov. 1, family court and related court services will move from Bridgeview Square in New Glasgow to the Justice Building in Pictou.

"This move supports government's commitment to an effective and streamlined justice system," said Justice Minister Michael Baker.

The move does not affect staffing levels. Six staff members now working in the New Glasgow building will move to the new location in Pictou. Three court administration employees working out of the current family court area in New Glasgow will continue to be located at Bridgeview Square.

Provincial court will continue to sit in New Glasgow and negotiations are taking place to use a portion of the area vacated by family court, in addition to its current space.

The Justice Building in Pictou also currently houses Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations offices, including the Registry of Deeds and the Land Information Centre. These offices will be relocated to the New Glasgow area as soon as suitable locations are identified.
