HEALTH PROMOTION--Minister Appoints New Chair to Nova Scotia Gaming Foundation

Russell Oehmen will be the new chair of the Nova Scotia Gaming Foundation.

Rodney MacDonald, Minister of Health Promotion, made the announcement today, Feb. 2, and the appointment is effective immediately.

Mr. Oehmen has served on the foundation's board for the past one- and-a-half years and was recommended for the position by the out- going chair, Hubert Devine.

"Russell has a master's degree in public administration and an excellent record of community service," said Mr. Devine. "As chair of the board, this experience will benefit the gaming foundation."

The Nova Scotia Gaming Foundation is a not-for-profit, arms- length government organization that offers funding to community groups and researchers to help address the consequences of problem gambling. The foundation receives annual funding from the Nova Scotia Gaming Corporation and is governed by a volunteer board of directors from the community at large. The board and the chair are appointed by, and accountable to, the Minister of Health Promotion.
