SERVICE N.S./MUNICIPAL RELATIONS--HRM Municipal Tax Legislation Introduced

Legislation to allow Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM) to reduce property taxes for some residential property owners was introduced today, April 29.

The amendment to the Municipal Government Act authorizes HRM council to reduce the property tax payable on a residential property if the assessed value of the property increased by more than a specified percentage.

"HRM council requested this legislation so it could help with the increasing property tax bills of many HRM residents," said Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations Minister Barry Barnet. "I am pleased to introduce the bill on HRM's behalf."
