Spray Trial for Blackheaded Budworm Begins

Natural Resources (to July 2018)

The spray trial announced on May 25 to address the concentrations of blackheaded budworm in the Cape Breton Highlands may begin on Saturday, June 25. The trial will proceed if weather and wind conditions permit, and if the insect is at the optimum stage of development.

Twenty areas located in the Cape Breton Highlands -- to a maximum of 5,000 hectares -- have been identified for a proposed spray trial to determine the effectiveness of a biological control product on the blackheaded budworm.

A map of the proposed spray areas is available for review at Natural Resources offices in Cape Breton, Antigonish and Guysborough. Additional information, including the map, is available on the department's website at www.gov.ns.ca/natr/protection/ipm/sheets/ipmbhbworm.htm
