Advisory Council Welcomes New Members

Status of Women

Four women from across the province have been named to the Nova Scotia Advisory Council on the Status of Women.

Holly Meuse, Bear River; Shelley Goodwin, Yarmouth; Ebi Cocodia, Halifax; and Anne Kelly, Lower Sackville, are appointed for two-year terms.

Four council members have been re-appointed: Mary Chisholm, Antigonish; Patricia LeBlanc, Sydney; Linda Carvery, Halifax; and Doreen Paris, New Glasgow. Doreen Paris is past-chair.

"I welcome returning council members and look forward to working with newly appointed members," said Carolyn Bolivar-Getson, Status of Women minister. "These women reflect the diversity of Nova Scotia women, and they have been engaged in the range of issues with which the council is concerned."

"Council members bring a world of great experience to council and to the women of this province," said Sonja Power, advisory council chair. "I welcome the new members and welcome back my colleagues."

Each advisory council member connects council to women of the province. The council brings to the attention of the minister matters of interest and concern to women. It also advises the minister on the wide variety of issues affecting the status of women.

This year council will focus on decision-making and electoral politics, child care, elder abuse, and the balance between women's work and unpaid caregiving.
