New Fire Depot for Chester Grant

Natural Resources (to July 2018)

The Chester Grant area will continue to be well protected from forest fires thanks to a new satellite Department of Natural Resources facility.

The new Chester Grant building will replace an aging facility in the area and will supplement a larger depot in Lunenburg County. It will house firefighting equipment and Department of Natural Resources staff from April 1 to Oct. 31 annually.

"We have listened to the concerns of the people who live in the area and agree that this is a good idea," said Minister of Natural Resources Richard Hurlburt.

Forest fire preparedness will be the principal priority for staff at the site, but they will also maintain Graves Island Provincial Park and support other departmental activities in the area.
