Three hundred young people from across the province will participate in the annual 4-H Weekend at the Nova Scotia Agricultural College in Bible Hill, May 5 - 6.

"The calibre of competition during the 4-H Weekend is impressive," said Ron Chisholm, Minister of Agriculture. "The 4-H program teaches young people exceptional life skills and provides leadership training. This weekend is special, it gives our youth an opportunity to showcase their talents."

The two-day event will showcase 4-H members in a variety of activities such as woodsman competitions, square dancing, public speaking, the Nova Scotia Horse Classic, and ultimate Frisbee.

"4-H Weekend is a great opportunity for families to socialize and take part in a variety of events that demonstrate what 4-H youth have learned during the year," said Elizabeth Crouse, manager, 4-H and rural organizations.

The highlight of the weekend, 4-H Night in Nova Scotia, takes place on Saturday, May 6. This event includes the winning speeches, demonstrations, entertainment, and square dancing. Awards are presented to the winners of all competitions and to members and leaders who have won national travel awards. Several friends of 4-H certificates will be presented to people who have made significant contributions to the 4-H program.

The public is welcome to attend the weekend's activities. More information is available on the departments of Agriculture and Fisheries and Aquaculture website at www.gov.ns.ca/nsaf/4h .
