Atlantic 4-H Members Improve Skills

Sixty-five 4-H members from across Atlantic Canada will sharpen their technical livestock skills during the annual Eastern Breeders Incorporated 4-H Showcase from Friday, June 23, to Sunday, June 25.

"Specific training opportunities like this help youth become better 4-H members, as well as prepare them to be leaders in the agriculture industry," said Ron Chisholm, Minister of Agriculture.

Members will learn about show preparation for beef and dairy cattle, including the latest techniques in showmanship, clipping, cattle judging and herd management. There will also be a session on dairy classification.

"We are pleased that Nova Scotia's 4-H program continues to partner with Eastern Breeders Incorporated to provide members with the latest livestock training," said Arthur Pick, acting manager, 4-H and Rural Organizations.

After two days of training, 4-H members compete for top honours with their own calves at the beef and dairy show. Awards will be presented to the winners in each class. The show is being held at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, June 25, at the Provincial Exhibition Grounds in Bible Hill. The public is invited to attend.

The Eastern Breeders Incorporated Showcase is an education seminar and competition for Atlantic 4-H members who are 14 years of age and have a minimum of two years experience with the 4-H dairy and beef projects.
