Heritage Report Provides Insight

Tourism, Culture and Heritage (Dec. 2003 - Jan. 2011)

An interim report with draft recommendations for a provincial heritage strategy stresses that everyone has a role to play in preserving Nova Scotia's rich natural, cultural and built heritage.

The Department of Tourism, Culture and Heritage and the Federation of Nova Scotian Heritage asked Voluntary Planning to consult with Nova Scotians on how they value heritage. Voluntary Planning released an interim report for further public comment today, June 21.

"Through Voluntary Planning, we asked Nova Scotians to help identify opportunities for a long-term provincial heritage strategy," said Bill Greenlaw, executive director of the department’s heritage division. "We're pleased with the level of public interest and look forward to reviewing the draft recommendations and providing feedback to Voluntary Planning."

Nova Scotians have until Sept. 1 to comment on the interim report. Once Voluntary Planning submits its final report in the fall, the department will consider the recommendations as it begins developing a provincial heritage strategy.
