2006 Aliant New Media Prize Applications Being Accepted

Tourism, Culture and Heritage (Dec. 2003 - Jan. 2011)

Members of the province's arts and cultural community have until Sept. 15 to submit applications for the 2006 Aliant New Media Prize.

The Aliant New Media Prize promotes innovative and creative excellence by awarding $10,000 annually in support of initiatives by artists or arts organizations that explore and develop the potential of new media technologies.

Applicants must be established artists, either born in Nova Scotia or a resident in the province for the past four years. Applicants must have had a significant impact on the province's cultural life and be currently active in their practice.

All applications are reviewed by a peer review committee. The names of the committee members will be made public when the prize is awarded this fall.

The prize was first presented in October 2001 by the Department of Tourism, Culture and Heritage thanks to the support of Aliant. Previous winners have included an artistic team who used hundreds of landscape videos taken from webcams to create a unique new image of the world, and a new media production studio that allows artists to incorporate sensors, interactive robotics and software programming in their work.

This marks the fifth and final year the Aliant New Media Prize will be offered.
