Public Submissions Being Considered

Natural Resources (to July 2018)

Woodlot owners, silviculture contractors and people concerned about the environment were among those who submitted comments during a recent review of changes proposed for the province's forest sustainability regulations.

Nova Scotians were invited in November to comment on draft changes to the regulations that had been prepared by the department's forestry division. Twenty-three submissions were received before the Dec. 19 deadline.

"It is encouraging when people take the time to provide us with feedback on regulatory issues such as these," said David Morse, Minister of Natural Resources. "Many of the proposed changes are technical in nature. They are intended to improve sustainability and provide increased flexibility for silviculture on Nova Scotia's private lands. That is why it was important that we consider input from all perspectives."

Department officials are assessing issues raised in the submissions and making appropriate revisions to the proposed changes. It is hoped that the amendments to the forest sustainability regulations will soon be ready to send to cabinet.
