Guide-ressources pour filles Now Available

A popular guide for teenage girls adapted for French-speaking teens in Nova Scotia will be released Friday, May 25.

The Advisory Council on the Status of Women worked with the Fédération des femmes acadiennes de la Nouvelle-Écosse to create Guide-ressources pour filles, based closely on the Guide for Girls published two years ago.

"We're excited about launching the guide and extending our reach to French-speaking girls and women," Carolyn Bolivar-Getson, Minister responsible for the Advisory Council on the Status of Women Act, said. "We look forward to other plans that help meet the needs of Acadian women."

The guide was adapted by Geneviève Renaud under the supervision of Louise d'Entremont, executive director of the Fédération des femmes acadiennes de la Nouvelle-Écosse.

"The Guide-ressources pour filles opens the way to a new conversation between francophone women -- mothers and daughters -- in Nova Scotia," said Ms. d'Entremont. "I am proud to have played a role in bringing this project together."

Ms. Renaud met with Acadian teens in communities across Nova Scotia to gain their input for the adaptation. She also researched French-language websites to give girls access to information in their own language. The publication also contains information about celebrating their Acadian heritage.

The guide reflects the province's effort to provide more services in French. Support from the Office of Acadian Affairs and Heritage Canada were essential to its success.

The book is being distributed with collaboration from la Fédération des femmes acadiennes de la Nouvelle-Écosse.
