Transportation and Public Works (to Oct. 2007)

A $5,517,945 construction contract for the Gold River Bridge on Trunk 3 in Lunenburg County has been awarded by the Department of Transportation and Public Works.

The contract was awarded to Dexter Construction Co. Ltd. to replace the existing bridge and provide a temporary, one-lane detour bridge during construction. The project is scheduled to be completed by September 2008.

"This bridge is a vital part of the Lighthouse Route," said Jamie Muir, acting Minister of Transportation and Public Works. "It's not only a critical lifeline for residents, but a memorable route for visitors."

The Department of Transportation and Public Works' highways division manages more than 23,000 kilometres of roads in Nova Scotia. It maintains 4,100 bridges and operates seven provincial ferries. Staff provide services from district offices in Bridgewater, Bedford, Truro and Sydney.
