Island Hopping and What Bird Needs a Wig?

Nova Scotia Museum

Keep the kids busy at the Museum of Natural History on Friday, Oct. 26, during the school in-service day.

"There will be lots of interesting things to see and do, not to mention a tasty treat, crunchy fried meal worms cooked-up at our Bug Bistro," said manager Janet Maltby. "We also have four new gallery quizzes this year that will have you searching for a bald eagle, the bird who needs a wig."

On Oct. 26, and 27, museum visitors will be able to talk with Centre d'interpretation du phoque des Iles-de-la-Madelaine staff, Céline Lafrance and Sonia Boudreau, about the visiting exhibit Seals of the Magdalen Islands. There will be samples of seal terrine and rillettes and a special seal craft workshop will be held for an added cost of $6.

"Having Madelinots, the name given to those from the Magdalen Islands, come talk to us about the historic relationship between the seals and the people, compliments this visiting exhibit. It is the type of event that we often are not able to arrange," said Ms. Maltby.

Island Hopping and What Bird Needs a Wig? takes place on Friday, Oct. 26, and Saturday, Oct. 27, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Regular admission will be charged for the exhibit. For information on this weekends events and other seal related programs this fall call 902-424-3563 or visit the museum website at http://nature.museum.gov.ns.ca .
