Paradise Trail Closed to Motorized Vehicles

Natural Resources (to July 2018)

Barriers will soon be put in place to prevent off-highway vehicles from accessing the abandoned Dominion Atlantic Railway line near Paradise, Annapolis Co.

Plans to close the trail to motorized vehicles, beginning in January 2008, were first announced by the minister of natural resources about two years ago, in response to concerns from property owners adjacent to the abandoned rail bed.

Since 2005, officials from the departments of Natural Resources and Health Promotion and Protection have consulted with individuals and organizations in the community regarding off-highway vehicle thoroughfares.

The province remains open to working with interested groups to explore options that would allow off-highway vehicle operators a safe and responsible place to ride, while meeting the rights and needs of others in the community in a fair and balanced manner.

The ban on motorized vehicles will be enforced by Department of Natural Resources officers and, where appropriate, RCMP. Operators who ignore the ban can be charged under the Off-highway Vehicles Act and/or the Motor Vehicle Act.
