Minister Orders Improvement Plan

Justice

Justice Minister Cecil Clarke has ordered the Town of Westville to submit a plan to address concerns about police governance issues.

The directive follows an investigation under the Police Act into the operations of the Westville Board of Police Commissioners. The investigation was conducted after concerns were raised by town officials.

"I am concerned with on-going critical governance issues within the board and have ordered a comprehensive plan to address these issues," said Mr. Clarke. "Action is required to ensure the community can have confidence in the board."

The investigation found several unresolved issues under the Police Act, including violation of membership by-laws, record keeping, and alleged interference with the day-to-day operations of the police force.

Mr. Clarke has requested that the Town of Westville submit an action plan by Feb. 15.
