Snowplow Drivers Keep Drivers Moving

Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal (Oct. 2007 - Feb. 2021)

Drivers across Nova Scotia have been able to keep moving during the holiday season despite the difficult weather conditions thanks to the efforts of the province's snow removal teams.

"Our plow drivers have spent time away from their own families to go almost non-stop to keep up with the demands of winter weather," said Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal Murray Scott. "Temperatures around the freezing mark and plenty of precipitation make for the most difficult conditions and that's what they've been dealing with for the past few weeks."

The department has about 1,000 people and 400 pieces of equipment that keep the province's roads as safe as possible during and after storms. Plow drivers work 12 hours on and 12 hours off so the plows can be kept in almost continuous operation when they are most needed.

"We place a priority on the high quality of our winter service," said Mr. Scott. "They work all hours of the day and night and I'm proud of them and the many support people who help keep them on the go."
