Two Road-Paving Contracts Awarded for Lunenburg County

Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal (Oct. 2007 - Feb. 2021)

Two road-paving contracts in Lunenburg County with a total value of $4,756,294 have been awarded by the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal.

The first contract, for $2,523,404, was awarded to Chapman Bros. Construction Ltd. to repave Highway 103 from the Halifax/Lunenburg county line near Hubbards, west for about 13 kilometres to Exit 7 near East River. Also included, the repaving of access roads at exits 6 and 7 from Highway 103 to Trunk 3.

The second contract, for $2,232,890 was awarded to Dexter Construction Co. Ltd. to repave Trunk 12 from the intersection of Chester Grant Road north for about 7.3 kilometres.

These projects are scheduled to be completed this year.

"Improving our roads is an expensive but necessary investment in Nova Scotia," said Murray Scott, Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal. "These roads will be safer and stronger when these projects are completed."

The projects are part of government's commitment to better roads and infrastructure as outlined in the speech from the throne.

The department's highways division manages more than 23,000 kilometres of roads in Nova Scotia. It maintains 4,100 bridges and operates seven provincial ferries. Staff provide services from district offices in Bridgewater, Bedford, Truro and Sydney.
