Immigration Web Projects Awarded Funds

Immigration (Jan. 2005 - Feb. 2021)

The province has approved funding for 10 projects aimed at developing or enhancing websites that help immigrants settle in Nova Scotia.

Total funding for the projects, which range from employment and career development information, to education and community resources, is $91,255.30.

Organizations that provide direct services to immigrants or that have specific immigration activities were given priority. Project proposals had to outline a viable plan to sustain the web developments.

"We are very pleased to be able to provide support to these organizations, which understand and appreciate the need that new immigrants have for information on services available and can directly supply it," said Immigration Minister Len Goucher.

"This funding helps us to ensure that immigrants receive the initial support and services they require to become full contributing members of our community as quickly as possible," said Claudette Legault, executive director, Metropolitan Immigrant Settlement Association.

The 10 proposals were a direct response to the public call for proposals issued by the Office of Immigration in January. Each applicant could apply for a maximum of $10,000.

Funding was provided by the federal government to help the province co-ordinate projects that develop online tools, information and services for prospective immigrants to Canada.
